I grew up mostly in the desert southwest. After a stint in the military, I worked as a janitor, factory worker, and landscaper, until finally returning to school to study creative writing. I completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction writing at the University of Arizona, and went on to freelancing for various magazines and teaching college writing courses. In my forties, I once again returned to school, this time to study law, and became a public defender. I now live in southern Arizona, where I divide my time between fiction writing and the practice of law.

On the heels of reading John Grisham’s Sycamore Row, I just finished Stephen Downing is Dead. Dan, in my humble opinion, you’ve written a novel on par with this great author. In fact, on many levels, a better more enjoyable read. You brought live to your characters and kept the suspense throughout the story. Thanks for writing and sharing a great story!
